There is often a rhythm: Expansion and contraction, density and openness, control and surrender…
Moments of doubt are part of the process. Areas are painted over, scraped away, obscured. Destruction is not failure; it is momentum. Each layer contains the memory of previous decisions. What drives the process is not concept but necessity — a “sense” for painting itself. A bodily intuition.
It’s a constant following of colour relationships as they emerge, where meaning arises afterward, not before.
The work is discovered, not executed.
